Why ITO exists.

International affairs can become difficult to follow when diplomatic decisions, official statements and breaking developments arrive from many different sources. ITO was created to bring the most significant developments into one clear editorial record, while preserving attribution and the distinction between fact, official position and disputed claim.

01

Document

Maintain a readable record of consequential diplomatic developments rather than treating every update as disposable social content.

02

Explain

Give enough context for readers to understand what happened, who announced it and why it matters internationally.

03

Attribute

Name governments, institutions, officials and identifiable reporting sources wherever practical.

04

Separate

Keep verified facts distinct from official positions, allegations, forecasts and contested interpretations.

What we cover.

ITO focuses on developments that materially affect relations between states and international institutions. The project is deliberately selective: significance and context matter more than publishing volume.

01

Diplomatic relations

Recognition, ambassadorial disputes, expulsions, recalls and changes in bilateral relations.

02

Treaties & agreements

Negotiations, signed agreements, ceasefires and multilateral arrangements.

03

Sanctions & measures

Restrictions, trade measures and diplomatic countermeasures between governments.

04

International institutions

Developments involving multilateral organisations, diplomatic forums and international bodies.

05

Conflict & negotiation

Peace talks, maritime disputes and negotiations affecting regional or international security.

How we work.

The project is designed around a small number of editorial principles. These principles are intended to make ITO useful as an information source without presenting the project as an authority it is not.

01

Source clearly

Identifiable sources are preferred over vague references whenever a specific publication, institution or statement is known.

02

Write neutrally

Headlines should describe the development rather than tell readers what political conclusion to draw from it.

03

Correct openly

Material errors should be corrected. Previous wording is not retained merely for consistency when it is inaccurate.

04

Stay independent

ITO does not publish on behalf of governments, parties, diplomatic missions or international organisations.

Independent status.

The project name describes the subject of its work. It does not imply treaty-based, governmental or intergovernmental status.

Not an intergovernmental organisation.

International Treaty Organisation is not affiliated with, endorsed by or representative of any government, political party, diplomatic mission or international organisation.

References to states, officials, institutions and international organisations are editorial references only and do not imply association or endorsement.
